Vinnie Jones Wake Up Call is An Alarm With Attitude

iphoneappreview

“If an angry soccer hooligan can’t get you up, nothing will.” This is what The iPhone App Review website had to say about the Vinnie Jones Wake Up Call when they reviewed our App. On their rating system, the Vinnie Jones Wake Up Call scored 6/10.

*****
Price: $1.99 Score: 6/10

The Vinnie Jones Wake Up Call is for all those mornings when it will take nothing short of a tough-guy yelling abuse to get you out of bed. The app was developed by Branded Research in association with Jones’ himself and features 19 different quotes from his movies and 8 recorded just for iPhone.

The Vinnie Jones Wake Up Call is simple enough to use – choose a wake-up time, select a wake-up quote and you’re set.

There are a few quality lines, like this classic from Snatch,

* “The fact that you’ve got replica written down the side of your guns, and the fact that I’ve got Desert Eagle .50 written down the side of mine, should precipitate your balls into shrinking along with your presence. Now get lost.”

A selection of the others – some more appropriate as a “wake-up” call;

* “Oi Elvis! Two beers!”
* “If you think you’re hard, I’ll show you what hard is mate.”
* “A busy mind is a happy mind”
* “If you wanna be a pro footballer, you’ll never do it smoking like that son.”
* “Get up. It’s a man’s game

The quotes in this app weren’t actually just pulled from their various movies, they were re-recorded with Vinnie himself. If you were planning on using The Vinnie Jones Wake Up Call for said purpose, rather than just comic relief, there is a unique wake up call for each day of the week, e.g

“Oi! It’s Monday morning – GET OUT OF BED!!”

I prefer to be woken up a bit more gently in the morning, but if you need the encouragement and don’t mind the $1.99 price-tag- The Vinnie Jones Wake Up Call isn’t a bad option.

If an angry English soccer hooligan can’t get you up, nothing will.

Vinnie Jones as “Mahogany” in Midnight Meat Train

vinnie_jones-_wake-_up-_call_mmtrain_review

Just Press Play is a cool movie review site. They have just reviewed the upcoming Vinnie Jones movie Midnight Meat Train and the results are good. Here are some excerpts from their review:

“From a short story by genre master (and damn good painter) Clive Barker, The Midnight Meat Train is precisely what it sounds like, only a lot more damn intense, all the damn time. Vinnie Jones plays Mahogany, a silent, huge man in a suit, who rides the subway trains. When it’s just him and one or two other passengers, he takes out his extra bigass silver hammer of mise en scene, and smashes their damn faces in.”

“Lemme tell ya, you’ll be hard-pressed to find any death scenes more vicious and beautifully stylized this side of ’70s Argento. It’s not so much that there’s a lot of gore—and there is—it’s more that that hammer wallops you just as much as the poor saps who get it. Again, Kitamura proves to the world how much ass he kicks, and just how hard he kicks it.”

God, this review is damn short, but I’ve said all I wanna say really. The film sticks with you, despite being mostly a kinetic, visceral affair. The production design and all that jazz are spot on and it’s actually genuinely tense at times. The finale kicks all kinds of ass and it’s got the kind of ending you’ll be thinking about way down the line. The movie doesn’t pull any punches, and more importantly than knowing what it wants to be, it is precisely what it wants to be. The Midnight Meat Train is a success, because it’s only trying to be The Midnight Meat Train, and that’s what it is in spades. Good show, Ryûhei.

We would’ve loved to have put some quotes into the Vinnie Jones Wake Up Call iPhone application but from what it sounds like we would’ve just had the sound of a hammer smashing heads on the tube in London

Happy New Year!
